YSL’s “L’Amour Fou” Screening at Alliance Française de Singapour

You can’t deny the fact that Singapore is such a beautiful country, and its people are equally beautiful and oh-so-stylish! Coinciding with the Women’s Fashion Week was the Fashion Filmfest, I had the chance to go to the screening of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge’s documentary film “L’Amour Fou“.

Trés, trés chic Air France uniforms were on exhibit. Being an early bird, I had ample time to go around and look at the “couture” uniforms of Air France…definitely elegance in the skies.

They had uniforms designed by Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, Christian Lacroix among other great designers. If only Philippine Airlines could commission Inno Sotto to design their uniform, flying with them would be much better and chicer. Now I have added  something to my bucket list:: I wish to design a uniform for an airline company before this lifetime ends..lol

Look ma! No sleeve seam! very couture!

Now on to the movie….

L’Amour Fou” or Mad Love-the title could pertain to the mad love of Yves Saint Laurent to his vast art collection; Pierre Bergé’s mad love to the business. But ultimately Yves and Pierre’s mad love for each other. (which I think diminished in their latter years)

The whole movie actually revolved around Pierre Bergé; he’s the good guy here…and to hammer the last nail; the movie ended with a long solo shot of Pierre Bergé. (i wouldn’t be surprised if Bergé produced this movie himself). (trying to save himself from all the controversies, perhaps)

It’s staggering to know the amount of art collection Yves had amassed throughout the years. He definitely lived a very decadent life. Very shy, oftentimes tagged as a snob. But highly-talented with his craft. On the other hand, Bergé had his mind only in running the business (which is not a bad thing) but he was not considering the fragility of Yves as an artist which eventually led to so much depression.

Anyhoo, this is not a movie review, just sharing my two cents about Yves and Bergé. The movie was definitely touching, inspiring but at the same time highly depressing.

And on a different note, i just realized, this was our first movie date ; )….
